The village of Jardim do Mar is an authentic jewel of the sea. It is a small town filled with colourful wildflowers and steep cliffs.

Up until the 1960´s, this remote village could only be reached by boat. Due to isolation and very poor living conditions, many of the residents chose to immigrate in search of a better life. After decades away from the island, most of these immigrants returned to Jardim do Mar to retire in paradise.
Like most villages in Calheta, currently Jardim do Mar´s main sources of income are tourism, the cultivation of bananas and vineyards.

The parish, formed by a small cluster of houses around the chapel, is very charming. At the village centre is a small plaza with fountains, which is the main meeting point of its inhabitants. Jardim do Mar still retains the quiet and calm of the past.

Small paths lead the visitor through beautiful landscapes, overlooking the nearby village of Paul do Mar. Another major attraction of Jardim do Mar are the waves which are ideal for surfing that welcome surfers from around the world
