A visit to the São Vicente Caves is a great opportunity to meet and explore the interior of Madeira Island. These magnificent caves were discovered about 100 years ago, but have only been open to the public since 1996.

Boa Ventura

On route between Arco de São Jorge to Ponta Delgada is the small isolated picturesque village of Boa Ventura. Agriculture, wine and wicker are the main sources of income for the inhabitants of this village. Wicker crops thrive due to the abundance of water, and, are transformed into stunning wicker basket by the skillful hands of local artisans.

Ponta Delgada

Ponta Delgada is a picturesque village famous for its seaside swimming pools that take advantage of the Atlantic Ocean water.

 In September, it's worth visiting the village of Ponta Delgada, because it coincides with the peak of harvest season.

Every year, on the first Sunday of September, thousands of people from all around Madeira Island and abroad celebrate the festival of Ponta Delgada. It is a festival of very old tradition in honor of the Senhor Bom Jesus (Good Lord Jesus)
